Welcome to the Kansas River Valley Local Foods website.
Who are we?
This project is a joint K-State and Kansas Rural Center initiative designed to connect local farmers and ranchers with institutions, school systems, restaurants, and buying clubs that are looking to purchase larger quantities of local foods in the Kansas River Valley area.
How does it work?
Local farmers and ranchers post detailed descriptions of their products and the quantities availability, dates available, and may post pictures of their items currently for sale. The producers set their own prices and are responsible for delivery of products, tax collection on any retail sales, and collection of payment for products sold. The website has a tracking system, so that when buyers purchase a certain quantity, the amount available for sale will automatically decrease, and the seller will receive information about the purchase necessary for filing the order. This system is designed to complement current direct sales opportunities and farmers’ markets / CSA sales to individual consumers. Larger scale buyers log onto this website and review the items and production practices listed by the producer and place orders for the products that best meet their needs. Products are organized by product category and producer.
A buyer’s profile section will be available to showcase participating buyer’s use of local foods as well as the posting of “wanted products” along with quantities and dates. This will allow growers and ranchers to plan ahead in order to try and meet buyer’s future needs.
So why are we doing this?
Institutions, school systems and restaurants are increasingly interested in purchasing locally produced foods and establishing relationships with local producers, but often lack information and time to identify producers that can cater to their needs for larger quantities.

Who should join?
1- Farmers and ranchers located in the Kansas River Valley who produce sufficient quantities of product to sell directly to wholesale buyers.
2- Institutional buyers, chefs, school systems, restaurants, and all others who purchase foods on a wholesale level.

Where are we located?
The KRV Foods site is run by the Kansas Rural Center and does not have a physical “bricks and mortar” location. All farm and ranch products are maintained by the producer and transported directly to the buyer. The site serves as an information sharing service only and does not take possession of any items. Compliance with all relevant State of Kansas, Missouri and Federal regulations are required for transactions utilizing this system.
