Introduction:
Gasper Family Farm is a small, diversified family farm situated between Lawrence and Kansas City, KS raising grass-fed beef, pork, chicken, duck, and dairy products. Our animals are raised naturally on pasture without any antibiotics or growth hormones. Our goal is to provide natural, health building food for local
families. We believe in raising animals as God intended by working with
nature instead of against it. This results in a healthier environment,
healthier animals and tastier food that is better for you!
We hope you enjoy our food!

Products: Grain-Free Pastured Pork - Glouchestershire Old Spots and Tamworth's, both heritage breeds; 100% Grass-fed Beef - Milking Shorthorns as well as other breeds; 100% Grass-fed Dairy - Milking Shorthorn, Old-Style Jersey and Normandes; Free-Range Duck Breasts and Legs - Muscovy Ducks; Free-Range Eggs - A variety of Heritage Breed Chickens.
Practices: We practice organic methods, low-stress handling, multi-species grazing, no confinement and everything is outdoor production. All our animals are raised without antibiotics, growth hormones or other chemicals!
Pest and Disease Management: Our low-stress handling and production techniques keep the animals healthy and happy. Instead of harmful chemicals we use natural healing practices like vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements as well as chiropractic and homeopathic treatments to maintain the health of our livestock. We have no need for chemical fly control and wormers. Instead, we use chickens and Muscovy ducks to control internal andexternal parasites (flies). We also practice genetic selection for healthy animals that are less susceptible to pests. The animals we raise are in their natural pasture environment, eating natural foods with no grain (except our poultry, which is supplemented with healthy outdoor diet of grass, bugs, etc). This keeps them healthier, precluding disease problems experienced by conventional producers.
Feeding Practices: Our dairy products are 100% grass-fed, no grain supplementation. All our beeves are fed grass, local hay and forage crops. Our pork is grain-free. Their diet consists of grass, hay, forage and dairy by-products from our own dairy. Our poultry is free-range and fed free-choice organic grains.
Soil and Nutrient Management: Managed rotational grazing is used to build up the soil organic matter. We feed hay in such a manner as to build up the soil's organic matter. Our animals are kept on pasture year round to deposit manure back ontothe soil. Rotational grazing prevents animals from over stressing certain parts of the pasture while evenly distributing the manure. We do not hay our land, which robs fertility. Grazing animals return nutrients to thesoil in a more readily available form. We use rotational multi-species grazing at appropriate stock densities to prevent plant stress, better utilize forage, and preclude the need to clip pastures.
Water Usage Practices: We use rural water supplemented by stock ponds and roof-collected rainwater. We fence off ponds and streams to prevent water quality damage. We practice rotational grazing to build up the soil organic matter thereby increasing soil water retention and decreasing water runoff and pollution from non-point sources. Animals are kept on pasture at stock densities appropriate for the land, not confined in concrete or mud lots.
